![]() Power-Ups can be found that restore health, restore energy, activate Rage mode and target the enemy for Air Strikes. In addition, each monster has a variety of unique moves activated by combinations of buttons. Each monster comes with a variety of punches, kicks, grabs, throws, blocks and ranged attacks. The roster includes: Godzilla (1990’s version & 2000’s version), Mecha-Godzilla (version 2 & version 3), Spacegodzilla, Anguirus, Destoroyah, Gigan, Moguera, Jet Jaguar, Baragon, Rodan, Megalon, Megaguirus, Mothra (in larval & adult forms), Orga, King Ghidorah and Mecha-King Ghidorah. Players choose from among 18 monsters, previously seen in Godzilla movies, with which to engage in battle and destruction. Godzilla: Save the Earth is a 3-D Fighting game, somewhat of a sequel to Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. Only a monster with free-will would be able to destroy the Vortek’s army and drive away the Vortek. They do this by controlling various other gigantic monsters, who will battle amongst themselves. A group of aliens, named the Vortek decide to invade the Earth to take away G-Cells created using Godzilla’s DNA. Godzilla’s power is so feared that scientists have begun experimenting on it’s DNA and creating artificial G-Cells of the monster’s power. Why not all of them? That, in itself, would add considerably to the "hell yeah" factor.Godzilla, a gigantic creature from underneath the sea, has been both the bane and the savior of Earth. You can pick up certain small buildings, which is nice, but only the ones that glow red. Still, as much as I like seeing the Space Needle in Seattle, I so wanna pick it up and throw it at someone. It's also a good thing that you can totally demolish cities like Osaka, New York City, Boston, and San Francisco - though most environments do come straight outta Destroy All Monsters Melee. The character models all look great, too, and sometimes you really feel like you're playing as a guy in a rubber suit. Just the fact that you are Godzilla adds a lot of appeal if you're ever in the mood for a brief, totally mindless, arcade-style experience. ![]() But that's not to say Save the Earth is a total waste of time. Whether you're Godzilla 2000, Mothra, Mechagodzilla 2, Rodan, or any of the other 16 monsters available, a fast-paced tumble just isn't going to happen. While it stands to reason that slow action is to be expected from 50-foot-tall lizards, dragons, mechas, moths, and moth larvae, there's no denying that the game's less-than-frenetic action diminishes a lot of its potential fun factor. Top Tier: Gigan, Space Godzilla, Megaguirus, Anguirus, Orga Mid Tier: Godzilla 2000, Godzilla 90s, Jet Jaguar, Mothra, Rodan, Destoroyah, Kiryu Low Tier: Mecha King Ghidorah, Megalon, Mechagodzilla 2 Bottom Tier: MOGUERA, Baragon One of my favorite matchups is Baragon vs. But not even Perry Mason himself would be able to defend Save the Earth's most unforgivable fault, its overall slow pace. ![]() Yes, it's been that long since the Japanese started crying, "Oh no! There goes Tokyo! Go, go, Godzilla!" Two years later, of course, Raymond Burr (as wild and crazy journalist Steve Martin) introduced American audiences to the character. Sure, this is the PS2 version, but isn't something more than a rehash in order after two years? Especially when you're supposedly commemorating the 50th anniversary of the greatest oversized movie monster of all time? But outside of the online play, the additions of a few new monsters and environments, plus a gameplay tweak here and there, Save the Earth has little of note to offer that GameCube and Xbox owners didn't already see two years ago in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee. Just imagine the possibilities with this franchise, after seeing how Sony's War of the Monsters has proven just how great this type of game can be. Outside of diehard Godzilla fans, no one really needs to bother with Save the Earth in the first place. ![]() I can practically hear the GameSpy servers weeping with feelings of rejection. Nary a sole, however, has chosen to take advantage of this online game. Two days after the release of Godzilla: Save the Earth for PS2, from 4:00 PST to 8:00 PST, that's how long I've waited online for someone - anyone - to wage battle with me in a war of the monsters we've possibly heard of.
